2025 Season- both the Red & Green team are in the GSM Division 1 League

Saturday 14th June – Ladies County Top Club v Maltravers at Maltravers. Crablands won 2 disciplines and overall 71-66

Singles: Sheila Jones lost 11-21

Pairs: Chris Lewendon & Sarah Fewster won 27-20

Triples: Gill Oliver, Val Foyle & Sue Blyth won 21-11

Fours: Lesley Duff, Lynn Hyett, Julia McLaren & Cheryl Brown lost 12-14

Tuesday 10th June – GSM Green team v Red team. The Red team won on both rinks gaining 6 league points

Cheryl Brown, Barbara Bond, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles won 33-7

Debbie Jones, Jo Green, Chris Lewendon & Sarah Fewster won 19-11

Monday 9th June – 3rd round County pairs.

Cheryl Brown & Sarah Fewster played Middleton away and came second!

Val Foyle & Sheila Jones played Norfolk at home and came second too!

Friday 6th June – Semi-final County Senior 4s.

Sadly our team of Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Sue Blyth lost at home to Southwick Park.

Julia McLaren & Lesley Duff played Witterings A at home and lost 13-19

Cheryl Brown & Sarah Fewster played Witterings B at home and won 16-11

Val Foyle & Sheila Jones played East Preston A at home and won 17-15

Tuesday 3rd June – 2nd round County Senior 4s.

Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Sue Blyth played away at Petworth & won 26-9 after 15 ends.

Monday 2nd June – 1st round County pairs. We had 4 teams entered in this competition.

Julia McLaren & Lesley Duff played Maltravers D at home and won 19-6

Cheryl Brown & Sarah Fewster played Maltravers C at home and won 21-12

Gill Oliver & Sue Blyth played away at Worthing Pavilion & lost 13-15

Tuesday 13th May – 2nd round County Triples. We have 3 teams entered in this competition who all got a ‘bye’ into the 2nd round

Our team of Lesley Duff, Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster & Sheila Jones lost by 1 on the very last end and are now out of the competition.

2024 Season

Thursday 12th September – Ladies Witterings Invite

Crablands had 2 team playing in this event. Each team played 3 matches of 8 ends and the winner was the team with the most ends won.

Cheryl, Sarah, Sheila & Carol lost one match but won the other two.

Val, Julia, Lesley & Sue drew their first match and then won the next 2 matches to win the event.

Well done ladies!

CONGRATULATIONS to the Ladies Green Team.

They finished in second place in Division 2 and will be promoted to Division 1 next season.

The Red team had a good season too and have maintained their place in Division 1.

15th August – National Finals at Leamington Spa

A team from Crablands were delighted to qualify for the National Finals representing Sussex in the Ladies 4s.

Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles played a team from Welford-on-Avon representing Warwickshire.

The ladies drew 14 all but then lost the match by 1 shot on an extra end!

12th August – Red team v Pagham away (rearranged from 25/7). The ladies won on both rinks gaining 6 league points

4th August – Red team v Storrington at home. (was 15/7) The ladies won on both rinks gaining 6 league points

Sunday 28th July – Ladies 4s County Final v Polegrove at Preston Park, Brighton

The 4s team of Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles qualified for this final.

Sadly Carol couldn’t play as she had Covid but Lesley Duff stepped in. The team had a great game but sadly lost by just 1 point! 20-21

Both teams in the final qualify to play in the National Bowls Finals at  Leamington Spa in August.

Tuesday 23rd July – Southwick Park Ladies Invite 

Crablands had 2 teams playing in this event in different groups. It was a great day out with 4 games of 8 ends interspersed with a delicious lunch and afternoon tea. The winners of each group played to find the winner and runner-up. the teams in second place played to find 3rd & 4th places.

All winners received a cash prize.

Sylvia, Cheryl, Sarah & Sheila won their group and progressed to the final which they also won.

Jan, Val, Julia & Lesley won some of their games and came 3rd in their group.

 

Saturday  2oth July – Ladies Top Club semi-final v Burgess Hill played on neutral green at Southwick Park.

Sadly the ladies lost all 4 disciplines and are out of the competition.

Sadly the away team of Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles lost 14-18 so the team are out of the competition.

Wednesday 10th July – Crablands hosted a Sussex County match v Isle of White ladies

Cheryl Brown, Lesley Duff & Sarah Fewster received their County badges and played their first match for the County.

Sarah Fewster played on the Sussex Top Rink.

Other Crablands ladies playing were Sue Blyth, Sheila Jones & Chris Lewendon.

We also had Mike Lockyer & Tony Dade playing for the IOW Ladies!!

It was a lovely afternoon of bowling in glorious sunshine.

Thanks to Carole Cornwell, Fai Dade, Val Foyle and Josie who prepared a splendid lunch for over 60 people.

Thanks also to Mike Lockyer & Tom Oliver for organising the busy car park and to everyone who worked on the bar.

23rd May – Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles played Horsham at home and won 26-7.

The ladies are now through to the semi-finals at Preston Park in July.

20th May – Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles played Worthing Pavilion and won 18-16

13th May – Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles played Middleton and won 21-13

Saturday 18th May – Ladies Top Club v Norfolk at home.

Crablands ladies won 2 of the 4 disciplines and won overall with a shot difference of 78-65

2023 Season

Ladies County Top Club Final v Polegrove at Preston – Saturday 9th September

11 Crablands gallant ladies traveled to Preston (Brighton) to contest the County Top Club final against Polegrove BC (Bexhill).
In debilitating heat, our ladies battled in vain but were unbowed! They were proud to be second in the County.
On the day, Singles – Debs Hogg
Pairs – Chris Lewendon and Carol Bowles
Triples- Cheryl Brown, Lesley Duff and Sue Blyth
4s – Sylvia Ballinger, Grace Humphreys, Julia McLaren and Sarah Fewster .
Along the way to the final, the ladies were greatly helped by Sheila Jones, Val Foyle and Melva Bateman.  Not forgetting super sub Barbara Bond.
Our thanks go to Alan Bateman and John Cornwell who marked and umpired our home games.

Div 1 GSM Red team v Worthing Pavilion at home – Tuesday 5th September

Crablands Reds gained 2 points  and are now the winners of the Division 1 League. Yay! Well done ladies!

Ladies County Senior 4s at the National Finals at Leamington Spa – Tuesday 22nd August

The team were presented with their National Finals badges before their match against Lancashire. Sadly they lost the match but thoroughly enjoyed soaking up the fantastic atmosphere and watching some amazing bowls matches.

Div 2 GSM Green team v East Preston at home – Thursday 24th August

Unfortunately the match was stopped after only 4 ends due to adverse weather. Both clubs got 3 points each

Div 2 GSM Green team v Marine Gardens at Marine Gardens – Friday 19th August

Sadly the team failed to gain any points losing 20-37
Sylvia Ballinger, Val Whiting, Carole Cornwell and Sue Blyth narrowly lost 15-17
Gill Oliver, Joan Adams, Julia McClaren and Debs Hogg had to concede after 13 ends after injury to one of our players (5-20) at the time.

Ladies Day – Wednesday 16th August

Ladies’ Captain Julia McClaren hosted a Ladies’ Day which was a great afternoon of bowling followed by lovely scones and cake with tea (or something stronger)!The top rink were Barbara Bond, Melva Bateman, Lesley Duff and Sheila Jones.

2023 Ladies County Senior 4s & unbadged singles

Despite an afternoon of drizzle and wind our ladies fared very well in these competitions.

Our Senior 4s Ladies team of Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won by 1 shot (16-15).

They will now represent Sussex at Leamington Spa in the Nationals in August.

Lesley Duff won the Unbadged County Singles and has earned her County badge.

Unfortunately lots of rain made the green unplayable so the match was cancelled. We shared the league points and got 3 each.

2023 Ladies County Top Club Area Final v Burgess Hill at Goring Manor – Saturday 22nd July

As this was the West Sussex Area Final the match was played on neutral ground at Goring Manor

In a nail biting finish or ladies won 69-68!

Pairs – Chris Lewendon and Carol Bowles won 20-17

Our team of Cheryl Brown, Sarah Fewster, Sheila Jones & Carol Bowles beat Henfield to secure their place in the County Final at the end of July.Ladies’ County Pairs competition Debs 

Debs Hogg & Sue Blythe put up a valiant fight against Horsham but sadly lost their semi-final pairs match against Horsham.

Debs also lost her 2-wood singles match against Jo from Downsman.

In Rd 1 on Friday 2nd June the ladies played Maltravers at Maltravers & won 22-11.
In Rd 2 on Tuesday 6th June they played East Preston & won 21-14.
In Rd 3  on Friday 9th June they played Pagham at Pagham & won 22-11. They are now through to the semi finals at Preston Park in July.
Ladies County Unbadged Singles
In Rd 1 Sarah Fewster played Pat Vinten from Arundel at home but sadly lost 19-21 after a nail biting finish!
Cheryl Brown had a bye in Rd 1 then played Anne Chuter from Midhurst at Midhurst. Cheryl lost 17-21 but did well to come back from being 3-12 down!
Lesley Duff had a bye in Rd 1 then played Jenny Robini from Pagham at home and won 21-19. A very exciting match!
Lesley will now play Anne Chuter at Midhurst in the next round.

Crablands ladies won 75-73 so are through to the next round.
This was a great result as the match was played on an artificial surface which is “alien” to most of the ladies.

Ladies Friendly v East Preston at East Preston – Thursday 1st September 

We sent 2 ladies triples team for this return friendly match.

We played 9 ends and then stopped for tea and biscuits before playing another 9 ends.

A lovely afternoon was had by all.

Crablands Green Bowls Ladies Day – Wednesday 17th August

It was a very wet afternoon and the green was unplayable, so with the kind agreement of the Short Mat section the ladies moved inside to play short mat bowls for the afternoon. This was a completely new experience for some and something quite a few of the others had not done for many years. The afternoon was played in a very informal way and much laughter was heard. This was followed by afternoon tea with scones and cake. Thank you to all who came and joined in the fun.

Ladies County Senior 4s – Sunday 31st July

Chris Lewendon, Cheryl Brown, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles had qualified for the semi-finals and played Burgess Hill at Preston Park. The Crablands four were in the lead right up to the last two ends when Burgess Hill drew level. Sadly Crablands lost by 1 point on the extra end.

Crablands Red team gained  only 1 point against Bognor at home losing 30-41

The friendly triple of Louise Arnold, Susan Jackson and Val Foyle won 13-11.

West Sussex County v Isle of Wight at Crablands – Wednesday 13th July
Crablands hosted a Ladies’ County Match between Sussex and Isle of Wight where Sussex had a narrow win. A great day was had by all.

 

Ladies County Senior 4s – Friday 8th July

Chris Lewendon, Cheryl Brown, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles were due to play East Preston. The match started and Crablands were leading 13-6 after 10 ends when it was realised that East Preston had inadvertently sent 2 substitute players which is not allowed. East Preston conceded the match and our ladies are now through to the semi finals on Sunday 31st July at Preston Park.

 

Ladies County Double Rink – Thursday 7th July

Crablands Ladies played Burgess Hill and won at home but sadly lost away so are out of the competition.


Ladies GSM Red team v Middleton  – Wednesday 6th July at home.

Chris Lewendon, Cheryl Brown, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won 28-10

Grace Humphreys, Melva Bateman, Barbara Bond and Sarah Fewster won 23-11.

As both teams won the Red team got all 6 league points.

 

Ladies County Senior 4s – Tuesday 5th July

Chris Lewendon, Cheryl Brown, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles travelled to Hurstpierpoint and after a very closely contested match won 25-23. They will now play East Preston at home on Friday 8th July.

 

Ladies County Senior 4s – Friday 1st July

Chris Lewendon, Cheryl Brown, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles beat  ladies from Pagham and are now through to the next round. They will play Hurstpierpoint on Tuesday 5th July.

Sarah Fewster, Melva Bateman, Lesley Duff and Sue Blyth got a walkover and will play The Drive on Tuesday 5th July.

 

Ladies County Double rink

Our ladies won the preliminary round against Southwick Park and also the first round against Henfield.

They will now play Burgess Hill on Thursday 7th July.
